Paramedic Response

Posted on June 26th, 2010 by admin

Shown here is the correct way to move through traffic while travelling code 3. Remember to pass on the left not the right. In British Columbia, Canada drivers are aloud to move to the nearest curb when they encounter emergency vehicles travelling with lights and sirens activated. If there is no curb they are obliged to pull to the right side of the roadway and STOP!

How much does a Paramedic make hourly & yearly? What are the levels of being a paramedic?

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by admin

im trying to decide my career its either between a paramedic, criminal investigations or crime investigations scene. what do each of these make hourly, yearly, What are the levels to achieve etc.

Paramedics are at the mercy of county, city and state governments. Their salary is determined by committee and it varies all over the country.

It is very hard work and most do burnout in about 5 to 10 years the same as good nurses.

much good luck to you in the future.

MyCoolJob: Paramedic

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by admin

Battalion Chief Doug Smith of the Columbus Fire Departament talks about the role of paramedic as part of an interview for mycooljob.org.

Mycooljob.org is a production of WOSU Public Media, and is designed for middle-schoolers and early high school students, to give them a taste of the real world after graduation, to show the pluses — and minuses — of real jobs. Interviews and photos of the professionals are paired with videos of them, as well as interactive blogs.

The project was funded by a grant through E-Tech, which specializes in using new technology so that Ohio learners will succeed in the world of tomorrow. The Columbus Dispatch also contributed to the site, offering free job-related content from its pages.

Four major career fields are highlighted:
Engineering, Information Technology (IT), Arts and Communication, and Health Sciences, all of which will be in demand in the next five to ten years, the same timeframe in which students looking at the site will graduate. In all, 15 full-time professionals offered to be part of the site. They share stories about their professional lives, which almost never follow a direct path, in an effort to demonstrate that career paths are never a straight line. Each voice allows students to meet and get honest advice from people who love what they do for a living, and find out why.

How does a person with some college become a Paramedic?

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by admin

I’m interested in becoming an EMT or possibly a Paramedic. I was wondering if it’s a degree or a class and on the job training. How does someone go about becoming an EMT or Paramedic. I am about 2 hours from Kansas City if that helps and not far from a few different colleges both 2 and 4 year.

Out here in Michigan, you can get an associate’s emt/paramedic degree. You must first become an EMT before becoming a paramedic. EMT is usually a college semester with 12 hospital clinical hrs. and 24 road hrs. (may vary in different states). Once you have taken your national registry test and obtain your EMT license from the state you can take paramedic courses. Most paramedic programs are three college semesters. You can also find accelerated programs, which I am currently taking and have no life other than that. Academy style programs will go 40 hrs. or more a week for about six months, plus you must complete 256 hospital clinical hrs. and 256 road clinical hrs.(fire department/private ambulance). Once you take your national registry test and pass you will be a paramedic. Most community colleges offer programs, but search around and be picky! Get into a good program! Hope this helps and good luck

What are some of the BEST paramedic colleges in Minnesota? Some of the BEST paramedic colleges in the country?

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by admin

I am looking into being paramedic after school and want to know what are some of the best colleges for paramedic education in minnesota? in the country? I want to have good experience and as much education I can get. Thank you!

The local community college or county vo-tech school may have a program for emergency medical technican (EMT). Please forgo those private overpriced for-profit tech schools :)

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search.

US colleges (including community colleges): http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

The local hospital(s) may also have a training program for emt. It’s also wise to make sure that the program is accredited by the National Registry of EMTs (though their site is ‘under construction’ regarding schools): http://www.nremt.org

How can i become a paramedic on USA?

Posted on June 7th, 2010 by admin

Hello,
I am a student in Portugal. I would like go to the United States working as a paramedic because I always wanted to live in the United States and be a nurse or paramedic. How can I study at a paramedic school there? What are the requirements? I have to finished high school? How much is the course? If you have the paramedic course, can I later entered a nursing school? Could you please clarify these questions and referring to other important things?
I thank everyone for help.

Start with looking up Student visa:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html

A student must show evidence of financial resources on the application. Then look up work visa. Sure you can come study here but what if you can’t get a visa after wards to work in the US.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html

Yes, you need to graduate HS. Then you need to become an EMT, there is not one process, one school or cost because the each State within the US has different laws. This will give you an idea: http://www.firemanemtparamedic.com/how_to_become_a_paramedic.html

Sure you could go on to nursing school but you may need to finance your entire education and may not be able to work in the US while being a student. Good Luck!
