I have always wanted to pursue becoming a fireman, what steps should I take to get me there already having a high school diploma. Do I need to go to school first and then pursue the carrer or do the fire departments send you to school? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx

Many fire department will give you the basic training that you need. Also most states have fire academies where you can go and become certified on your own. My advice would be to start out as a volunteer first so that you can gain experience and find out if firefighting is right for you. If you wish to get a degree in firefighting you can take a totally online degree from West Georgia Technical College or Grand Canyon University.

I had a house emergence where the pipe broke , and water was coming out from the ceiling. My option was to have fireman come in ,and stop it , but the question is would I get charged for it, and how much would that be?
There was no fire, but they had to come in, and helps with the pipe. I told them beforehand that there was no fire prior them coming to my house.

In most jurisdictions, fire service is part of the taxes you pay and calls are free. However, there are towns that have a separate fire depatment fee that’s an optional payment. If you’ve opted out, you get charged for fire service by the call.

Hi, and thanks in advance for viewing my question.

I’ve only just registered for Yahoo! Questions, but i would like to see if anyone can help me with this one.

I would like to become a fireman but need to know the best way to become one. Everytime i phone the Hertfordshire recruitment line they say they are not recruiting at the current time, the same goes for my local station line, which then diverts me to the county line.

I left school with 5 A-levels, i’m in the gym 4-5 days a week and have a great sense of humour, so i think i would make an ‘okay’ fireman. Can anyone help on the best channels to contact?

Just ask them for the application form and get them to hold it on file. It helps if you know a fireman too for some "strange" reason.
There’s a long waiting list so most people end up working somewhere else for up to two years before they can join.

I am interested in becoming a full time salaried fireman. I have been for several years. I was just basically wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

you have to go through training, so go to your local department, talk to someone, see what your qualifications are, and apply.

I don’t understand. I know some firemen are paid but the firemen here where I live are all volunteer. They go around asking for donations.
That doesn’t seem very… encouraging, does it? I would love to be a fireman and help out my city but why bother if I am not going to get paid?
They risk their lives to save ours. They should be PAID!
So do Volunteer Firemen work 2 jobs?
as in volunteering + another job..

Volunteer means just that, they volunteered to be a fire fighter. They didn’t do for the money. they did it because they care about their community and the people in. Ask a paid fireman why they joined. They will tell you also that they are not in for the money. An all volunteer fire dept. gets grant money from the govt. for equipment and things like that. But they also rely on donations to add to their "kitty" you might say. Yes, most of them do have a regular job.
