Home fire drills and fire safety procedures for children?

Posted on July 11th, 2010 by admin

Not sure what children should do. Stay in bedroom? Climb out window? Run and find parents? Just get out? Etc.

Any information out there on proper procedures?

They need to learn how to crawl under the smoke, check the door to see if it is hot, and then get out of the house. They need to know 2 ways out of the house. Their window if they door is hot, and an easier way, like the front door, that they can use if their door is not hot. You should have a designated meeting place as safe distance away from the house so your children know where to meet you. Tell them not to go back into the house for anything and not to take the time to take things out of the house. A fire can move very fast so getting out needs to be their main priority.

Violation of Fire Safety Rules and illegal construction, where to complain?

Posted on July 8th, 2010 by admin

Kaveri Building Plan has been passed by BMC on the basis of fire-safety Norms is taken care of, and “A plan is not passed if it does not fulfil all criteria laid down by the law.” Now Kaveri B has openly violated fire safety rules, and the reason Maybe, there is some kind of lack of awareness or misconception regarding the rules,I request committee to identify and examine the buildings which is not fire-safe. And take necessary steps against the flat owner, because the gangway has a narrow escape roads that do not allow fire service equipment to get close when there is a fire, as the owner has covered the emergency exit with a fix grill as you know All high-rises (buildings taller than 14.7m) must have two staircases so that there is an emergency exit, but we have only one and that is also covered with fix grill.

Moreover he has constructed illegal chajja inside and outside the drainage pipe lines, which has
Resulted in to Non safety of my house

Check with the fire marshall and local building code inspector.

Who else feels like CA gov doesnt take many preventive measures for fire safety?

Posted on July 2nd, 2010 by admin

It seems like every few years we have this major problem here. Four years ago we lost so many lives let alone homes due to it, and here we are again. I lost my home to fire 3 1/2 years ago I know what these people are going through. Thank god for the firefighers and red cross.

After my sister’s house survived the 2003 fires through sheer luck she replaced the roof with fire-resistant tiles, covered all exposed wood surfaces with stucco, and other measures – including installing a pipe with a fire department connection running from her swimming pool to the street. Several of her neighbors did the same thing with their swimming pools.

The availability of water is what caused the fire department to choose her street as the place to ‘hold the line’ against the fire.

Every house on her street was saved.

are the new fire safety cigarettes really more dangerous?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

i hear that the new fire safety cigarettes hane neoprene in the bands in them and that we are inhaling that plastic..i hear there have been many cases of people getting very sick and going to hospital over these cigarettes..

Yes. The government forced cigarette manufacturers to add carpet glue to the cigarette paper. Then the have the nerve to pretend that they are concerned about the health of smokers.

No thanks. I started rolling my own in January. I’m not interested in carpet glue.
