Michael Biserta ~ on FIRE.

The New York Fire Department (FDNY) is known for their annual charity calendar and one special fire fighter in particular: MICHAEL BISERTA.

Staten Island fire fighter Michael Biserta made a name for himself by some very over-enthusiastic, fire-hose action on a Guys Gone Wild video. Already a star on the FDNY calendar the scandal made the FDNY decide to stop publishing their famous calendar.

Michael, was the cover man of the 2008 calendar, so he launched into a modeling career.

How on earth are fire fighters meant to extinguish fires in skyscrapers?

Posted on June 25th, 2010 by admin

Like in the WTC, if they didn’t collapse what were the FDNY meant to do?

If you are talking about the uk you will find that all tall buildings have what are called dry risers they are an empty water main which rises through the building with an outlet on each floor.
At ground floor level there is a cupboard on the outside front wall which the fire service can connect to which enables them to pump and charge the riser with water.
This means that the fire crew only has to go to the relevent floor with the required equipment to enable them to tackle the fire with water from the riser.

Should fire fighters continue to be put at risk fighting forest fires to save homes in California?

Also, should people who willingly live in diaster prone areas be charged a diaster zone tax to reimburse states and the fed for services rendered?

I do not think it is any different than new orleans. Both should be given regulations on where they can live and should have insurance. people complained for years about how new orleans were treated but no one complained when the Mid west was hit hard. Get rid of both or keep both. They are one and the same.

Where can i buy the powder stuff that fire fighters use in their extinguishers?

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by admin

Its like powder but becomes foamy when mixed with water or something?

I THINK its called AFFF (aqueous film forming foam).
Its a flourinated surfactant in detergent mix.

You can’t. These materials are regulated (in the USA at least) for environmental reasons. Business to business, or business to government trade only.

How does the service of fire fighters relate to the purpose of government?

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by admin

?

Government acts to protect the health, safety, welfare and property of private citizens. This cannot be an unfunded mandate paid for by voluntary contributions of private citizens. This would result in ineffective service and too many free riders.

Taxation is justified to pay for municipal services such as the fire department. Firefighters must be hired, trained, and paid at taxpayer expense. The service firefighters provide is a public one that often times benefits particular private citizens, namely the one whose house is burning down.

The community’s collective interest in fire fighting services for the community outweighs the individual local property owner’s right not to be taxed to pay for those services on the basis that his property has never had a fire, never will have a fire, and even if there was a fire would be paid for by the self-insured property owner.

Stupid question–but why do fire fighters vent the roof when a building is on fire?

Posted on June 7th, 2010 by admin

There has to be more to it than just letting the smoke escape.

And doesn’t letting the air in just fuel a fire?

Is it to let the heat out in hopes the building doesn’t explode?

The firefight is going to go into the building.
Before he goes in, they put a hole in the roof so that once air comes in, the fire and smoke and heat goi=es out the roof.
If they didnt, once the fire ate up all the oxygen, it would lie in wait until fresh air came in when the firefighter entered, and it would almost literally explode with new flames and heat.(so to speak) (AKA "Backdraft)
