How many times do Fire Fighters work a day?

Posted on July 14th, 2010 by admin

How many times do they work a day?

It really depends on the area that they are based in. The country and rural areas are called only when needed. The larger cities usually work 12 hours a day. If they are short handed the shifts could be longer. The only sure way to find out is to go to the fire house closest to you and ask. Most places will be glad to answer all your questions. Not be afraid to ask.

How much schooling do Fire Fighters need?

Posted on July 11th, 2010 by admin

Where could you get the schooling? How long does it take? How much do the make?

In our area, fire fighters have some college training. They take college courses related to building codes, chemistry (because they respond to hazardous material situations), emergency medical treatment, some higher level math courses, etc. These courses are offered through our community college system. Here is a link that will explain the requirements better.

Containing a fire – Skyscraper Fire Fighters – BBC

Posted on July 9th, 2010 by admin

The primary aim of fighting a fire to get it under control as quickly as possible. Trainee firefighters must also learn that every fire has a critical point at which it goes out of control. Known as ‘flashover’, it should never be underestimated as the chances of surviving flashover are minimal. why do fire fighters enter a room full of smoke by crawling?

Posted on July 8th, 2010 by admin

this is a science qns.

There are several reasons that they crawl. In a fire situation smoke and heat rise and began to fill a room from the top down. By taking a crawling position it’s sometimes possible to actually see the seat of the fire and extinguish it with minimal water damage, but that’s not all. When opening a door oxygen can be introduced to a smoldering fire creating a flashover or backdraft situation, which is basically an explosion of flame. They can be fatal to a firefighter even in turnout gear and staying low is the safer. Also if a fire has burned through a floor, a firefighter will be less likely to fall through from a crawling position, The next reason is to search for victims. A person trapped in a fire room will either be down low on their own or passed out on the floor. Crawling on the floor makes for a more thorough search. Most if not all air in a fire room will be toxic, that’s why firefighters will be wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus SCBA’s when inside a burning building.

How do I wire fire fighters lights to my truck?

Posted on July 5th, 2010 by admin

it’s a control box that makes the headlights flash like a cop car
I am a Firemen
The station has a diagram but not for 03′ and up silverado’s

Unless you are an official with training in "running code," you’ll find yourself getting arrested for using the lights. Impersonating a firefighter – or if someone thinks you are a Police Officer, well the Police (or the public) aren’t kind when it comes to that….

If you are a currently licensed city firefighter, you should easily have access to these directions from your maintenance department. If you are a Forest Service, BLM, or volunteer firefighter, you can get directions from a civil-service maintenance department – with the proper credentials and I.D.
(And since you have mis-spelled both firefighter, and fireman – I’m thinking maybe not?)

Should fire fighters be allowed to sleep on the night shift?

Posted on July 2nd, 2010 by admin

I mean there must be something they could be doing, maybe the mayor, or the lunch ladies.
They work twelve hour shifts with twelve hours off in between, four days on four days off.

Ok nitwit, firemen work a "24 to 36 "hour shift with same amount of days off. So are you telling me that they are not allowed to sleep during their shift. If you had a inklling of an IQ
you would know that. And even though they are sleeping they
of course have to wake up and respond to any and all alarms
that their station may get. So many times their sleep is interupted. Just be thankfull that they are around to save your sorry ass, if you every need them.

Why are the black people in my area angry over the ruling over the fire fighters?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision.
The blacks in my area state they should get the promotions anyways.

First, I question your statement "blacks in my area", because it has no backup. How many did you talk to? On what basis do you say this?

Allowing that you are correct, however, it’s because blacks are just as racist as whites in this country. For every white guy who quietly refuses to rent to blacks in his neighborhood, there is a black guy who insists that he should get some preferential treatment because of discrimination.

Neither is right. And that’s why the racism persists.
