If a fire fighter trainee panics in a drill?

Posted on July 14th, 2010 by admin

knowing that it’s a drill, and leaves their pardoner behind should that fire fighter trainee graduate with the rest of the class?

That’s interesting…why would someone panic in a drill, particularly toward the end of fire school (I assume you’re doing your final modules)? I would not be surprised if abandoning your buddy is grounds for failing a training module. After all, if you panic in a drill, how will you behave in a real fire?

On the other hand, in my fire school, you got at least 2 chances to pass each module. Now that the trainee’s messed up and regretted it, perhaps chances of a repeat are slim. Still, I wonder what kind of firefighter would let panic cause a slip up in a drill—worrying about time, I can understand, but true panic?

To be a fire fighter, you just have to explore the field right?

Posted on July 11th, 2010 by admin

And after you’ve explored the field, you can go to a Junior College, with a major of fire science for 2 years at anytime before you turn 30, and you just need to be able to find a job as a fire fighter before you turn 34 or 35 right? Thank You!

My sil is a firefighter in NYC.
He has a college degree, he applied and when he was accepted they sent him to training. He was thirty when he started.
He didn’t go to jr. college, nor did he major in fire science.

i want to become a fire fighter through the airforce?

Posted on July 8th, 2010 by admin

I dont want to go to college to become a fire fighter, i would rather join the air force first, then become a firefighter after my service. is there anything that i should know about before following this course of action?

Im from california and I went through a Fire Academy class/ EMT i passed with flying colors.
I then applied all over the state for a BASIC fire job that i was over eligible for. To make a long story short i didnt get a job, after 16 weeks of hard training, 32 certifications, and 42 applications not one job. I applied for the lowest slot possible to seem realistic because i know how demanding this job is and how hard it is to even get a job and still came out short handed. Pretty much what im trying to say is i spent allot of money ..actually all my school money… to do this. and i too am thinking about enlisting in the air force because not only will they provide you with more training but school money for after. So if you cant get a job through the air force as a fire fighter, then your chances are greatly increased after more school. so to me its a win win after the air force.

good luck i hope that all made scenes.

Can a person with a criminal record become a fire fighter?

Posted on July 5th, 2010 by admin

I know this person who’s 17, he has a criminal record but he’s not a bad person, he just has some bad habits. He told me he wants to become a fire fighter but he thinks he won’t be able to do it because of the criminal record. He didn’t kill anyone or anything, just stole stuff but he’s going to stop.
So my question is, can he still become a fire fighter with a criminal record? And how can he start?
He lives in Canada.

I’m Canadian.

Yes he can. he gets fresh start at 18.

He needs to go to court at 18 and fill in the form to have his record sealed to all eyes for life.

Being costrophobic a problem for a fire fighter?

Posted on July 2nd, 2010 by admin

Im in college right nowand Ive always wanted to become a fire fighter, but i have one problem. Im not comfortable in small spaces. Im not full on costrophobic but i was wondering if that would be a major problem to go into the fire department.

Well, it depends on your amount of claustrophobia, and the fire department that you are applying to.

Inside a house, you may feel fine, but add think smoke to that, you might not feel so fine anymore. I’m sure that if you talk to the manager, or whatever they call themselves in the fire departments, they will understand. If you don’t feel like you can actually go inside, you can always be a driver, or work the hoses from the outside.

Do i need any type of college degree or college class to be a fire fighter?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

I really want to be a fire fighter but don’t know what my first step should be. Do i need to enroll in a college class? or what do i do?

No. You will enter a Fire Academy and then do EMT training and some other training after that. I know some community colleges have Fire Academy and so do some cities. If you go with a city, I think they guarantee a job but I’m not sure.
