About PTD

The evolution of decision-support technologies to adapt to educational contexts and their rapid penetration of the K-12 educational market have made it possible to bring educators a wide variety of data, when they need it to make instructional decisions. But even as these educational data technologies continue to improve, their use by educators and the potential for the transformation of instructional practice lag behind. No place is the absence of data-driven instructional practice more evident than in the preparation of new teachers.

In response to this challenge, Colorado Consortium for Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to use Data (PTD) works through the teacher preparation programs of four Colorado universities to:

  • Establish a culture and institutionalize data-driven instructional practice through-out all aspects of teacher preparation;
  • Increase the proficiency of new teachers in using data-driven instructional practice and data technologies to facilitate student achievement of state standards; and
  • Develop a sustainable infrastructure to promote and enhance data-driven instructional practice, as a part of teacher preparation, across the state.

Project activities include:

  • Providing training and coaching for faculty members on data-driven instructional practice;
  • Revising participating teacher preparation programs to include data-driven instructional practice;
  • Working through district partnerships to make district and classroom data tools available to faculty and teacher candidates for their teaching/learning purposes; and
  • Developing a web-supported knowledge infrastructure about data-driven instructional practice in teacher preparation.
