could i be a volunteer fire fighter?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

ok, so my bf is a fire fighter, and i have put on gear, gone through some of there training (like smoke trailors with obstacles) and have been on an accident he went direct on. blood does not bother me and i’m not closterphobic. my bf and other FF say how they could send me into tight places because I’m 5 foot 2 and 130 lbs. but I don’t know if they are just saying that, or if I could really do it. I think i could probably do it, but I don’t know because i couldn’t do what guys can do. What do you think?

I suggest that if you are really interested, you apply and take the test. There is a written test and a physical test. You must pass both. Hope this helps.

how long is training for mos 0861-fire support man USMC?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

I am shipping to recruit training on October 19th and im ready for the grueling thirteen weeks of hell. but i still havent been told how long my specific job training is so im wondering if someone can answer that question for me!

Not sure if this will help. I went through the 13F course in the army in Ft Sill, Oklahoma.

It’s been awhile but the Marine FO’s trained at the same base back then. Not sure if they do now or not.

We were OSUT then and the AIT portion was 6 weeks.

I’m gonna say it’ll be around that long.

You picked a good MOS. Marine FO’s are squared away.

are the new fire safety cigarettes really more dangerous?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

i hear that the new fire safety cigarettes hane neoprene in the bands in them and that we are inhaling that plastic..i hear there have been many cases of people getting very sick and going to hospital over these cigarettes..

Yes. The government forced cigarette manufacturers to add carpet glue to the cigarette paper. Then the have the nerve to pretend that they are concerned about the health of smokers.

No thanks. I started rolling my own in January. I’m not interested in carpet glue.

Why is the Salamander used as a name for a fire truck in Fahrenheit 451?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

I have a project and one of the things I have to do for it is to find out some myths on why they use a Salamander as a name for a fire truck in the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I have searching the web for some myths but have had no luck, any help?
Thanks

"Numerous legends have developed around the salamander over the centuries, many related to fire. This connection likely originates from the tendency of many salamanders to dwell inside rotting logs. When placed into a fire, the salamander would attempt to escape from the log, lending to the belief that salamanders were created from flames – a belief that gave the creature its name.
Associations of the salamander with fire appear in the Talmud as well as in the writings of Conrad Lycosthenes, Benvenuto Cellini, Ray Bradbury, David Weber, Paracelsus and Leonardo da Vinci."

Can a paramedic work as a nurse tech in the hospital?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

i am a paramedic on the road, but would like to get into nursing, i am wondering if a paramedic can work as a nurse tech. I also work as a CNA at a hospital and am trying to get them to make me a Nurse Tech. since i am a lisc. paramedic. Usually they only make nursing students nurse techs but I hold an actual lisc. and have more training then 1st year nursing students. Let me know.

Every career or job position has certain requirements , license, and/ or diploma.Hence, you have your license as a paramedic(after a certain amount of training and instruction). This is to protect everyone involved—the public and the employer.Your level of knowledge or experience in another related field is not relevant unless you want to take the requisite courses or training to enter that field.A CNA, for instance, assists nurses(take B/ps, vital signs etc) but can not claim to be nurses regardless of how much post -school experience they may have or the knowledge they may have gleaned from watching nurses. The same thing applies to you. If you do decide to become a nurse, your being a paramedic would help you in the process by reducing the time you spend in school and so on.I hope this information has helped you a little.

Do you have to pay for the fire department?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

This may be a silly question, but I could not find the answer anywhere on the internet! Do you have to pay anyone if the fire department gets called to your house to put out a fire? And if you know, can you post a link to some information if possible? Thank you!

where i live its a volunteer dept.. we as taxpayers pay them taxes each year just like we do for police and schools..
but an ambulance ride will cost at least a grand for basic service
if you need lifeflight it will be at least $5000

Why are the black people in my area angry over the ruling over the fire fighters?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision.
The blacks in my area state they should get the promotions anyways.

First, I question your statement "blacks in my area", because it has no backup. How many did you talk to? On what basis do you say this?

Allowing that you are correct, however, it’s because blacks are just as racist as whites in this country. For every white guy who quietly refuses to rent to blacks in his neighborhood, there is a black guy who insists that he should get some preferential treatment because of discrimination.

Neither is right. And that’s why the racism persists.

How come fireman are always the first to show up when someone calls 911?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

Have you ever noticed that the firemen are almost always the first ones to show up when someone calls 911. Usually followed by the police and then the ambulance. Why is that? Is it because firemen have more drills to make their time to show up to the scene quicker? or maybe there are different rules for how fast a firetruck or police car can drive to the scene? Any firemen, police officers, or EMT’s with opinions on this? Just curious.

In my city it is a matter of numbers mostly. We have 4 ambulances in the day and 3 at night. While we run fire apparatus out of 9 stations.

So a fire engine is usually closer than an ambulance.

Do i need any type of college degree or college class to be a fire fighter?

Posted on June 28th, 2010 by admin

I really want to be a fire fighter but don’t know what my first step should be. Do i need to enroll in a college class? or what do i do?

No. You will enter a Fire Academy and then do EMT training and some other training after that. I know some community colleges have Fire Academy and so do some cities. If you go with a city, I think they guarantee a job but I’m not sure.
