Questions about job as Fire Fighter?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

My cousin’s boyfriend is training to be a fire fighter, and it got me wondering, just out of curiosity:

How long does it take to train to become a fire fighter?

Also,
How much do fire fighters get paid? (If it’s different based on area, this would be in a rural or suburban area.)

believe it most rural fire fighters are volunteers or very low paid — if you are the least bit interested find out your local fire marchall and have a chat!!!

can my job fire me when i go to basic training?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

i go to basic training between my junoir and senoir year in high school and my manager said that he will have to fire me. Is this true?

Legally, he is not allowed to do that because you are military personell. However, there are some anti-military managers out there that find ways around it. If he does, you can usually press charges. Talk to your recruiter about it. He can explain all of this to your manager in a peaceful way and win him over. Don’t try to do it yourself, it could get heated, then you really will be fired.

does a fire truck suck up water when there is a flood?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

I had a friend who said she saw a road that was blocked off by her house. Not too long after, she drove by and the water was gone. She said she thought the fire truck had sucked it up. I wasn’t quite sure what to say about this.

A pumping unit could certainly do this, as many are set up to take on water from a lake or pond, especially in rural fire departments. I would be surprised, however, if your city is using the fire department for flood control. More likely, the source of the water was stopped, and the water drained away through the storm sewers.

Borrowing traffic cones from police or fire department?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

Do you know if you can borrow traffic cones from the police department or fire department? I want to practice maneuverability so I can get my liscense. I live in Columbus, OH. Anyone know if the Columbus police/fire let people borrow cones? Or just in general, anyone know?

I work a police dept in NE Ohio and I would say at least every other week we loan out cones to people, just go ask.

Im finding it really hard to find someone to countersign my first passport- can a fireman sign it?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

Hi just a quick question- im applying for my first passport and everyone i have asked to contersignature my passport application has refused, the doctor, denstist, bank and post office. The only other person who i know in any profession is a fireman. Does anyone know who is can sign it. thanks. The reason i dont have a passport already is because i have been scared to fly but really need to get to spain as i have sick relative there so need passport soon.

my dad has signed a couple for people..and he is a shopkeeper. my husband is a local government officer at the council and he too has done a couple…so i think a fireman would be ok.

they’ll soon let you know if its not….i’d give it a go…it is a profession after all. hope your relative gets well soon!

What does it take to become a volunteer fire fighter (for a minor)?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

My friend and I were thinking about becoming volunteer fire fighter’s when we turn 17, this year. Do you know what is involved in this, especially for a minor? I am going to contact the fire company, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any input. Thanks!

Im not sure if your fire department has an age restriction or not. Im not sure you will get in because 17 is still pretty young. It cant hurt to ask. My brother became part of the national gard when he was 17 so its possible. I found this website that may help

Will it be easy to get a fire fighting postion in the Air Force?

Posted on April 30th, 2010 by admin

I have been in a fire academy out of the air force for two years. I have my FF1 cert. Red card. Haz- Mat awareness cert. and have been a volunteer for a year. What are my chances of geting into that tech school?

If your prior service,

Your chances are just about zero.

The Air Force only allowed 20 prior service to enlist last year.

That included all branch’s.

And they had specific AFSC’s they had to enlist into.
